How to Avoid Overpaying on Card Marketplaces

In the secondary market, asking prices and actual values are rarely the same. Unwary buyers often overpay because they confuse optimistic "Buy It Now" listings on eBay with actual market demand. Follow these rules to purchase safely.

1. Always Check Completed / Sold Listings

Active listings represent what sellers *hope* to get, not what buyers are willing to pay. To find actual values, search for the card on eBay, then check the "Sold Items" and "Completed Items" checkboxes in the filter sidebar. This reveals the actual cleared cash transactions.

2. Account for Graded Multipliers

Never purchase a raw card at graded prices assuming it will receive a high grade. The cost of shipping, insurance, grading fees, and the risk of a low evaluation means you should almost always discount raw valuations significantly.
